Spring Clean

The origins of spring cleaning date back as far as 3500 years and across cultures ranging from the Persians preparing for celebrating their New Year to the Jewish cleansing the house and home in preparation for Passover celebrations.

Essentially the ritual is founded on the premise of clearing out the grime that would make the environment impure.

Given that current thinking around diet,food and nutrition is such that the idea is to provide our own body’s internal environment with the best quality experience possible – it also makes sense to sweep away the cobwebs that so often pollute our internal environment. I consider that the perfect time to detox/clean your environment is “spring”.

Wait! Before you go out and subscribe to just any detox program, or spend thousands at the latest and greatest detox spa resort or retreat, you could quite easily stay at home and give your self a great detox that will have you feeling awesome heading into the party season…

So take a look at what you could cut out for a few weeks;

1. Coffee - caffeine causes over stimulation of your adrenal glands
2. Sugar – is stored in your fat cells if you don’t burn it all up
3. Soft drinks – rot your teeth, gums and disrupt digestion
4. Lollies – contain all kinds of nasties like colours and flavours
5. Chocolate – LOVE IT – but its 5 mins on the lips 5 years on the hips!
6. Donuts – nothing good about these guys… heaps of trans fats
7. Biscuits – one of the easiest ways to load up on trans fats is to eat a bikkie
8. Processed meat – contain chemicals and sulphites that are linked to cancer
9. Cigarettes – kill you
10. Alcohol – is so toxic to the body that ALL cells in the body are affected by it negatively – not only brain cells

Grab someone near to you, a friend or family member or your whole family and look to remove some of the junk from your body by setting a start and finish date. Challenge each other to do the best that you can at cleaning yourself out. Perhaps add this delicious fresh juice recipe to your daily menu to help you feel more refreshed and alive;

Send all of these ingredients through your juicer 1 -2 times daily and watch your skin glow and your energy lift.
1 Apple
1 stick of celery
¼ beetroot
1cm of raw ginger
1 carrot
